I went to market and bought...

Please keep us advised on any cool stuff you have wasted your money on...
(I mean any useful stuff that was really worth the money) and tell us the good and bad points!

After our move we got a new tv to replace our small 22" LCD we had at the old place:
Samsung UE37ES5500KXXU 37 Inch Full HD LED smart TV with Integrated Freeview in Black
http://www.coopelectricalshop.co.uk/Sam ... 7ES5500-BK
£470

Pros: good picture, very thin so we could wallmount it, internet connected nice watching things on iplayer in HD
Cons: wouldnt auto update its firmware had to use a usb dongle, although its thin for wall mounting scart on the back
made it hard and i had to skin the scart cable.

********************

To take the pain out of networking the TV/SKY box I also bought:

TP-Link TL-PA211KIT 200Mbps Mini Powerline Ethernet Adapter - Twin Pack
£30

Simple plug one end into router and socket. Plug the other into a socket downstairs and into TV
Pros - saves another cable laying exercise and seems to work without any problems
Cons- I now have so many leads and cables behind my dvd/sky box/wii its like spagetti.

I went to market and bought:

Ricco minitravel speaker:
XXXXX.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00510EA7I/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00
£10

I hate things that poke in my ears and wanted an mp3 player with built in speaker.
This reads music off the microsd card and plays in through the speaker.
Pros - small, cheap, reasonable playback sound at lower/medium levels, 1 micro sd card can hold all my music collection
cons - can charge from usb but i bought a seperate charger, some distortion at loud volumes * and I mean louder than I can
comfortably listen to things at, it needs a sleep function otherwise will carry on playing forever in a loop.

Edit: unfortunately this broke after 18 months and they have changed the design so there's no volume control now.
Makes it pretty useless.

Yes I've heard that when you turn on your xmas lights the rest of the district browns out.

This sounds fun :-) I often use superglue to stick my fingers back when they fall off as well.
Ideal for split dry skin etc. My knuckles looked like the grand canyon when I was doing all that DIY last month. :panic:

IS the alcohol gel for eating or washing with ? :jester:

And whats a stormwhistle for?

Tempted to buy a folding shovel and axe for the car :-)

The superglue is indeed for when standard plasters etc are not enough

The gell is for washing, desinfecting and of course as a fire starter when its a bit wetter then desirable :gripe: (or when you are to lazy to look for tinder  )..tried eating it...bad idea!!

The storm whistle is one of those extremely loud whistles in case you really wanna get found and you are not in a very obvious place, when it is obvious you will be not spotted by passers by

PS: You can never go wrong with a shovel, axe and 3x3 tarp in your car, throw in a few luminescent roadworkers jackets and you are good to go (it all fits in a small plastic bag)..wanna be leet..throw in a firesteel, some candles and cotton balls and mestin et voila let the zombies arrive
