Holland 1 Uruguay 1 at half time.

Two great strikes, especially Van Bronckhorst's (Van Bommel's outrageous foul in the build-up should've been carded, mind you). The game's turning a bit dirty as half time has come round, but it's captivating stuff. :D

@ Markymark: Yes, both shots were pretty spectacular, especially Van Bronckhort's. Forlan's seemed to have more of that "whoops, Jabulani-defying-natural-laws-of-physics-all-silly-like" movement to it.

Still 1-1, Van der Vaart on for De Zeeuw.

Come on now, orandgiez!

Woooo, the second Dutch goal was a bit contentious but no question about the third - super header and this one could well be over (and my pre-tournament pick into the final! :woot: )

That cheeky penalty-taker Abreu's on for the Uruguayans. Any heroics left from him and Senor Forlan?

As far is a i could see the ball came form behind heitinga, therfore blocking the view of stekelenburg. i found his reaction quit accurate for the short notice.

On height the ball can do awkward things, mostly not going down.. this wasn't on height tough and the ball seemed to behave properly. Granted, Forlan did shoot a curler, but he'd have done that to another ball too.

Spain it is!

Seems Germany was really playing like the Netherlands always did. Playing very attractive football, but out in the semi-finals.

This will prove to be some World Cup final :D

Too bad, seeing how spain played today I would've really loved it if we had to play germany in the finals.
Luckily there's a perfect emoticon of the feeling the germans must 've had after the first 15 minutes which they couldn't avoid afterwards :stars:

Aw, I was looking forward to a Netherlands v Germany final, but never mind.

Chalk up another one for Paul: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/world-cup-2010/7878270/Paul-the-psychic-octopus-correctly-predicts-Germany-defeat.html

And at least there'll be a winner who has never won before.

All set for the final then - this Anglo-Saxon says...."GO Netherlands!!!!!!"

Oh, the cursed octopus... :gripe:

But Germany will come in third at last: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/10567735.stm
And, unfortunately, no good news for the Dutchies... http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/10569977.stm :(

supposedly debatable, the last time they used the octopus (and first time) was at EC 2008. He nailed all matches but erred at the final.
Anyway, Spain favourites, but we've got a good shot.

One more day, one more night of sleep and then we'll go all out. Players in the national team say they are in the form of their life, they say they'll explode this sunday. Spain haven't scored more than one goal every game in the knock out phase, The Netherlands scored 2 against Slovakia and Brasil, 3 against Uruguay. Spain lost to Switzerland in the poule phase, The Netherlands haven't lost one for 25 games straight now (and they're not planning to lose this one).

Before I part I had to share this mural with you:

Epic.

Uh oh! Uruguay - Germany: 2-3 (which was nice), BUT Paul the octopus - statistics: 7-0... Assuming equal chances for each team to win a game and statistical independence between the games, you get a probability of (1/2)^7 = 0,78125 % (!) that Paul was only right by chance. (Statistically significant at a level of 2 %!)

And it took him a while to decide for today's game, which was a forecast for the close score of 2-3. On the other hand, he picked Spain to win the final rather quickly. No good news, I guess...

So: Can the Netherlands defeat him as well? Let's hope for the best.
