This is great. I can't lose today.

If Spain wins, my team does well. If Spain loses, the team I'd actually prefer to see win gets to win. Sweet! :D

Edit: So far so good!! I've still got my captain to go for this week.

Predictions for tonight?

Im anticipating an exceedingly dull match in which Italy will win in Extra time or we (England) will scrape through on Penalties. I'll be down the local either way so good atmosphere at least.

LOL @ Pyxie appearance... well done, sir. :worship:

____

Wow, as the player pool diminishes, and lesser-known players score big points,
I'm stunned by how hard selecting a team is in this competition.

Holy pincers of death, Batman — I thought 8 transfers was too forgiving.
(now I know better)

I notice a lot of smart managers are keeping their cheap, eliminated players
for budget reasons. (Interesting: I hadn't thought of that tactic)

Good luck, England — you'll need it!

Calling it now: CAPTAIN GERRARD.

Well - I'm mainly calling that because I had Captains Pilar, Gomez, and Silva before this. :D Only have one shot left. :p

But really now; nobody else on England has done a damned thing this tournament, so my odds are at least okay.

I'm running into the same problem on the player-selection front, Kril. There are no longer any unexpected surprises left in the tournament. Everyone is expensive now. I had CZR before to buffer out my squad, and Greece actually gave me a ton of points this week (seriously), but now what? All I can think of is keeping a few really cheap losers "just because".

63% possession for Italy after 115 minutes — truly alarming/humiliating.

Yet still, this is the amazing Night of the Thousand Missed Chances!

England in with a shout, flip of a coin, if they can get to penalties... wow.

First match in the tournament to be nil-nil after 90.

England's Brave John Terry for the embarrassing slip/miss PK!

THIS is how you play defense. :D

Watching that game, neither Italy nor England had a damned bit of business still being in this tournament. Germany won't even need those two extra days of rest.

Waiting for tomorrow's headline "England Team in Ashes" ... heheheh.

Ashley Young is still not ready for the big stage; back to Watford, wanker.

How awesome was Pirlo's PK? Deflated Hart somewhat, I think.

__________

I'm hedging toward Portugal for the semis (which will totally screw me if Spain goes through)
Only four transfers allowed for the final; better load up on the likely participants.

NOTE: The team sheets for Port/Spain should be out before the next deadline,
so you can be sure about Spain's goofy Fabregas/Torres spot before you make your moves.

Wow, I'm falling out of touch with the top two, boo,
--kril out-- :horror:

@ Sundae: nice job this week — stellar defense

Spiking heavily on Germany personally. 5 GER, 3 ESP, 2 POR, 1 Italy just because.

The rest are stop-gaps. Beware trading out someone cheap from a non-playing team! Once they're gone, you cannot get them back.

Quick moment of confusion: Nobody is running Arbeloa. He's only selected by 5.1% of teams. What the...?

Four Germany, four Portugal and three Spain for my starting 11…
and one Italy on bench who is almost sure to get subbed on.

Clarification: Above, where I talk about getting in the likely finals participants, and
that I'm hedging toward Portugal — I know I'm picking against the favorite (Spain).

Technically, I should be getting in Spain players, as they are more likely to go through.
But, since I'm playing from behind on the table, I've gotta take a risk,
have a differential, to have any hope of overtaking anyone.

Portugal look like they're overall rounding into form and maybe CR7 could put on a masterclass. :confused13:
They could conceivably upset Spain, mefinks.

In the Thursday match, I think most everyone agrees Germany are likely to blow up Italy.

But crazy-ass Balotelli had a ton of shots on target today — who's up for a punt? :D
Save you some €millions...

Well that could have gone better, great game to watch either way, loads of chances and some nice plays (from the Italians).

A deserved final result I'm loath to admit. At least I got to have commiseratory curry on my way home so not a complete loss by any streach.
