New Guild Wars 2 media

Postby [FnG] Da Kril » Mon Jun 27, 2011 11:46 pm

I thought this third-party review was interesting, in that the reviewer has never played the original Guild Wars.

Top 10 Reasons to Be Interested in Guild Wars 2

I hadn't paid much attention to it, since it's been what, 30 years in development?

But looks good, seems like they are moving closer to the WoW model in a lot of things, but leaving out some of the annoying grind aspects of WoW like competing to farm mobs/herbs/quest items etc.

Still not a fan of so few skills at once. That was the one thing I liked about WoW, that really seperated the good players from the...not so good. Having 7 or 8 macros in wow, that all changed if I held down shift or alt, meant you really had to be on your toes with 20-30 different abilities at your disposal, but we'll see how things work here.

Not sure what to make of no tank/dps/healer, but I guess it can work, we'll have to see how the gameplay works. I'm sure there will be classes or builds better suited to certain roles, and people will still get pidgeon-holed into them on tougher encounters, but looks good so far.

I'm sure I'll pick it up anyway, I miss WoW sometimes, but it's far too time consuming, so this looks like a much more casual version, which I guess it's intended to be.

Maybe in 5 more years when it's realeased we'll all be playing together again! :D

The ease with which the ranged thief was kiting there is a little worrying (it just looked like hold stafe, button pound and win), but the rest looks pretty nice. Should be worth the pricetag for sure. :)

I know. Aside from the big troll thingy smashing the player in the above video, I haven't seen any of the preview characters taking any sort of damage. I presume it's being done like that for demonstration purposes so you can see what your future class of choice is capable of, rather than seeing what the enemy has got up its sleeve too soon.

The more I see of GW2 the more astonishing I think it's looking. They have, clearly, totally overhauled the game to iron out the niggles of GW1 and give us a huge, immersive adventure which is going to be fun whether you're great at it or, like me, rubbish.

They can hold it back for a little while longer though, please, I've still got work to do on my GW1 achievements! ;)

New Guild Wars 2 trailer out now from Gamescom.

They won't allow embedding, but you should watch it on YouTube in high-res anyway.
About 5 mins. long with lots of new creatures we haven't seen yet.

Loving the camera lens effects (rain/frost). And that dragon looks a bit miffed.

This is really starting to look "teh sexay." Now if only they could choose a year in which to release it...

The more I see of GW2, the more I'd love to play it. The number 1 reason is a miss for me, but beyond that it does indeed look like a triple-a game that should provide some hours of enjoyable gameplay in groups, while lookeing stunning doing so.
