Wow, Nostaliga.

Postby Xen0n » Thu Dec 01, 2011 3:31 am

Not really 100% sure if anyone posts in here anymore, but I just found this forum again, I signed up in 2004. Looking back on my thread in the 'welcoming' section, I burst in demanding to know who the best player in FnG was despite knowing FnG was a fun, non-competitive clan, and made a bit of a fool of myself.
Still, despite my reputation I managed to settle into the community eventually, and eventually left with Anthrax to join a competitive clan, whereafter I was heavily involved in the competitive scene. This forum was also a springboard into a clan of 'Map Exploiters' where we would beta-test people's custom maps for bugs and errors.

Anyway, reading back my illiterate and immature posts, I just wanted to say (more to myself than anything), sorry for that! But UT2004 was really a great game for me and I still look back on it wishing it was as popular as ever, no other game has ever come close for me, not in the slightest. The community of Ut2004 was so fantastic, and nowadays with consoles and matchmaking being so popular the almost limitless freedom of custom Maps, Mutators, Servers, etc. on UT seems almost paradisaical. You could edit virtually ANYTHING, no restrictions on your name, on the server browser, the dev console. Wow, looking back I didn't know how good we had it.

I'm going to re-install UT2004 this week, and if I can get 1 or 2 games out of it, even if they are laggy as hell, I will be happy!

Cheers!
:sorry:
but
:thanks:

  Someone never went to the ProUnreal forums! (That place was the trash-heap of the "competitive" community. :D) Competitive UT was fun. I kinda miss it.

I do believe there are a few guys still doing UT night with Troog, Cakey, and Splodey. Check 'em out! :D

Oh yeah, I did go there and I know what you mean, it was terrible! But hey, every community has to have it's lower end of the spectrum, at least all ours was kept in one convenient place that you could avoid!

Right yeah, I've heard Ut2004 still has a small but relatively active community if you know where to look, so I will try to seek them out!
Wonder if I've still got the old skills 8).

Yo Yo Yo Dawg!

The FnG Euro server still has 5 or 6 active players every night (except Friday & Saturday - folk have gotta socialise you know!)

I dont think any of them were around at the time you were (Mez, Double Kill, Bufty, Oz, Marco0892348902...), but they are a great group of friendly guys. They just play TDM, filled with low-level bots to keep the action & adrenaline points flowing. It must be a decent set-up, as they have been playing it for years.

Me, I was regular up until a few months ago when I decided to give my Xbox some more attention, but I still pop in now and again.

Install UT2004, and join in the fun this Sunday night....
