North American FnG UT2k4 reunion. Interested?

Postby [FnG] Torgo 3000 » Sat Nov 16, 2013 4:29 am

I'm putting this out on the table for Northa Merkin FnG'ers read and think about for a bit, and plan ahead for.

Based on the number of people posting in GWIA's recent "allow me to reintroduce myself" thread, I thought maybe there'd be interest in having a little reunion. With ridiculously huge firearms, mantas, raptors, trucks, and tanks. I'm going to pick a date for a reunion: Saturday, March 29, 2014. That allows a few months for additional folks who might pop in once in a blue moon to perhaps stumble upon it.

If 6 (or more) people want to commit to reinstalling UT2004 and being available to play for a couple of hours that evening, I will bring up a server with a good ping rate for us to play on.

(Of course, we could always use the Euro server, but the 160 ping from NA is, er, suboptimal for us. Maybe we're spoiled. I dunno.)

I chose the date randomly. Please suggest a different one if you're interested in attending but already have plans that evening.

I'd set up the server in North America, at a Game Servers data center closest to where the majority of attendees live (Chicago or Dallas?), but this wouldn't have to be limited to North Americans. If you're on in one of the incorrect time zones, and want to stay up REALLY late or get up REALLY early to join us, and the nasty ping is not an issue for you, well, that's GrrrrREAT! See you there!

Here's a current list of folks committed to join the reunion:

1. spim
2. Troog
3. Da Krilmeister
4. Nihilist
5. Malvos?
6. ((GWIA????)

and possibly ...

7. Bawsy
8. N!MRoD
9. Ro3L

Good luck with this! Providing times aren't too much out of whack, I will be happy to join for a few hours and take the shocking ping and lag on the chin.

I'll just spam flak or something. :)

Alas, the timezones will be way out of whack. 9pm Central Time here will be, I believe, 3am there.

Folks HAVE been known to stay up late. Lert was one who never missed our Thursday night ONS nights. Lert was, of course, insane.

OTOH, if I can ever get out of work early on an evening that you're playing on the flagship Euro server, then I will totally take the ping on MY chin.

:D

GWIA told me that he's all up for this NA reunion, and will reinstall UT by whatever date is chosen.

GWIA, since you see Buzz/F'nor IRL, would you check in with him to see if he'd be interested?

Kril, likewise with spim & 7uh?

(I still listen to my Mold Monkeys CDs ... their version of Billy Bragg's New England is on my rotating playlist. 'Tis teh awesome.)

I will try to watch these threads a bit more carefully now.

I missed this (and a lot of other stuff).

Still trying to be there, however professionally things are changing for me, or at least i hope to change them.
However it is asking a lot of my time and freedom. so cant tell how things will be in a few weeks.

I"m assuming that TeamSpeak 3 is the in-game communication software of choice?
It looks like (on their site) they've managed to get the Windows, Linux and Mac versions all synced.

Version 3.0.13.1 is the current bomb.

Thoughts?

After seeing little response for months, and losing GWIA (kind of Amazing Grace in reverse - once was found but now he's lost), I wrote this whole endeavor off as a nice idea BUT.

On the other hand, SHOOT'N' 'M, so, you bet.

I believe I see 3 NA'ers now: Me, Kril, spim. There's as much interest over the pond. And ironically (not!), there is already a server over there. Hmm. Dang, I just had a thought, but then I lost it.

Not sure why I have it, but this (3.0.13.1) is the version I have installed. So I'm on board.
