America's Army : Proving Grounds (Beta)

Postby [FnG] Lambik » Wed May 28, 2014 10:37 pm

Just wondering if it's worth a try, instead of BF4.

It's free to play, on steam(for some that might be a downside)

Downloading now.......

I have no problem with steam. Will take a look.

I agree that BF4 is feeling a bit repetitive these days as we are playing the same maps over and over.
I would suggest going back to vehicle or dominion but they don't play well unless you have a full server.

BTW anyone know how long Rampy paid up on the BF server for?
We really ought to get HIS moneys worth ;-)

Overall I'm not sure if I need a rest from FPS.
Would prefer something 'different' possible things coming up this year or in alpha which interest me at the moment:
Coop zombies defence (7 Days to die/rust/dayz)
Racing (The crew/next car game)
Space (Elite/Star citizen)
Coop shooty (Borderland 3 /Evolve)

steam is no problem for me,

And I aggree with hanno, we are mostly doing TDM and playing on the same maps
trying something different could be an idea

I have also found other some games that might be interesting:
- Ghost recon Phantoms (steam/origin not required)
- warface (also no steam/origin required)
- Arma 3
- DayZ
- Gary's mod

How about something like;

Civ 5
Crusader Kings II - Demo on Steam
Europa Universalis III or IV - Demo on Steam
Anno 2070

Something a bit different from the FPS's we've been doing.

AS for DayZ/Rusy/H1Z1 - they current suffer from lack of content and things to do at the moment so it's just kill on sight.

someting different than FPS would be a good idea

I don't have civ 5, but I do have civ 4 with the beyond the sword expansion.
maybe we could give those a try, one downside is that it takes up to 5 hours or more.
starting a civ game early in the evening would be a smart idea

Forgot to mention Age of Empires 2 or 3.

I don't mind if a game takes a few Wednesdays to complete.

I think like minecraft these 'open' ended games will need any pvp fleshed out by the players eg make up your own game.
But I agree at the moment I wouldn't want to go on pub servers as the games are currently known to be 'how to be a bastard' simulators.
I've had plenty of fun with the building/crafting etc in 7 days to die which while not as pretty as dayz , the game and zombie defence is coming on nicely.
You can host your own dedicated server with rules you like (not sure how servers work in dayz/rust) and I can see various ways to make up your own pvp games.
EDIT: I've checked and you can't host your own dedicated server with RUST(maybe in future) or DAYZ standalone you can only rent servers from hosting companies. This is a no-no for me on these two at the moment.

re: CIV/strat games - I don't think I can focus on a game that long without my brain melting.
But feel free if you want to try for a couple of weeks - I can take a break from Weds meet ups.

Also Eve suggested putting in the DLC maps from pack 1 for BF4 on the server, I'm not sure if everyone has these or not
(I've got a feeling Cookie might not, but then he doesn't make it every week, and its easy if Rampy is there to skip the map if he does come)

I'd also give either warface or Americas army a shot if other people wanted a go.

Gary's mod could be quite interesting as there's quite a good few games made for it, Murder, Melonbomber (bomberman), Trouble in Terrorist Town and Prop hunt.

Plus it's cheap!

Yes but I think you need to buy Counter-Strike: Source for it to work as it uses the source engine?

I've looked it up and you do need to buy counter strike: Source
its available in the steam store for €23,- (about 19 pounds)

Link to the game:

if we play a different gamemode every wednesday we would be entertained for quite a while

sounds like fun to me!
