Toxikk - another arena FPS possibility

Postby [FnG] Mez » Mon Aug 04, 2014 1:09 pm

http://www.toxikk.com has just appeared - seems to be a small German studio.

Looks a year or so ahead of UT4, Steam-based, and there's a closed beta in Q4 with access packages between $15 and $90. Go take a look, watch the vid, read the blurb, scan the forum & see what you think.

Of course, it may fly, and it may die - who knows. :chin:

Looks sort of interesting but bit concerned that they recorded their demo with bad resolution, even turning up res on settings it comes out bad
makes me suspect about the graphics - although I do realise its not yet in beta so a lot can change.

I know - only time will tell, but allow me to cross my FiNGers... :)

BTW, there's contract work available, doing maps for Toxikk, if anyone's interested:

Made me think of UT2K4 actually, double jumping, the flying craft. In any case could be promising but need to see more first.

There's a new video out for this.

It looks interesting, but might just be a prettier UT2004 so why not just play UT2004
Ah because we got bored of that (plus I got RSI from it as well :( )

Not entirely convinced yet.

Another video showing the movement in the game:

Wonder where they got all those ideas?

Thx for that vid Hanno. Though for some reason your vid links always start at the end of the video for me xD

Yeah, it looks like pretty much like they took most of it from UT2K3/2K4, though they did mention that.
The rocket jump is a big reference to Quake though.
In any case, i like the pace and the atmosphere. Looks interesting for me.

Latest news for this game is that January 10th sees the end of being able to sign up for the Founders packages. Then January 22nd sees the game go live under Steam's "Early Access" mechanism, where anyone can pay to try it. That's not really the "closed beta" I was expecting (note that 75% of "Early Access" games never get released apparently!) but I'll suspend judgement until I play it.

It's still hard to say what it'll be like, but it roughly looks like a UT2004 clone with better gfx, the player characters from Halo and the rocket-jump from Quake. Sort of. ;)
