Time for a forum change?

Postby [FnG] Lazz » Sun Sep 30, 2012 12:42 am

Hi all

So I was thinking......and now I have a headache.

Anyway, as you all know, this forum, in terms of topics and posts, is not very active. I am wondering if this is due to the amount of sub sections that we have. Ive counted 20 of them and Im wondering if things could be changed so its less spread out. The forum was designed like this for when we had more regular people visiting, but now that theres not so many, I think it might be a good idea to cut down on the sub sections.

For instance, we currently have:

Welcoming, Clan Discussion, Clan Guidelines, Creativity Forum, Unreal Tournament Series, Battlefield Series, Steam Games, Guild Wars, Guild Wars 2, World of Warcraft, Dungeons and Dragons, Web based games, Wii/Nintendo, Playstation 1/2/3, Xbox, Other console, TV/Movies/Sports/Music, Politics & Debate, Technology.

Thats a lot of sub forums considering the lack of regular postings and in my opinion, I reckon we can become more active by trimming the fat, as I imagine there are postings on these other forums that people are not aware of.

So maybe it should be more like this:

Welcoming

Clan Discussion (with clan guidelines as a sticky topic perhaps and guidelines can also be posted in clan discussion)

Creativity Forum

PC Games

Console Games

Everything else

Read Only

I know this new layout sounds kinda boring but I honestly think with so many sub forums that the postings are spreading so thin.

What do you all think?

Also if this were to change, perhaps someone with the photoshop skills can also change that banner to a more up to date version?

I think in the light of current activity it's a good idea to shrink the forums a bit. Though I have to say that a seperate Guild Wars 2 thread seems to make sense as that seems to be our core game at the moment.

I think that might actually be a pretty good idea. However, I hope the forum allows for the merging of subfora. I believe it does...

Well, that's why Lambik introduced the test forum, so we can try things out before messing with the real one... ;)
With kind regards, Mathijs

To be honest, i do not mind so much if it is spread out.
Its quite structured so well, but then again, I would probably be ok either way.

If you guys are staying with phpBB, yes it allows merging of subforums.

Time is a bit of an issue here, and it's not on my top priority list to be honest,
although I do see your point, as the forums are way over divided into sections right now.

I will have to try it on the test forums, not really experienced with merging/moving sections.

I hope to find some time soon.

*Pokes Lambik* Time for hacking and slashing yet?

And on the same topic if we had an updated Banner what games would reflect what we are playing and what FnG is all about?

- a picture of Eve stabbing someone in the back in BLOPS2?
- a picture of Rampy pretending to be a bush in COD4?
- Lily and her wings in Aion?
- Sphinx in GW2 swearing about how bad it is?

:Beye: ouch, you've hit my eye

Thank you Lazz, that is most helpful, I have to admit I've been spending my time on games.
I will get on it soon...

Okay, I just have distorted the forums :D

On the Console games I may have OOFED it a bit, as I put all console games in one bin, :slaphead:
instead of sub forums like "X-Box, Playstation, Wii/Nintendo, others".
I can created them again, but splitting the posts into each separate bin will be a biatch :chin:

Let me know if this works better :D
